Sunday Serial - An Update, a Poll, and a Contest

So, longtime readers may be wondering what's going on with the Flash Gordon Serial that I'd been posting chapters of each Sunday. Well, long story short, it turns out that my source for the serial was mistaken, and it was actually still under copyright. Therefore, no more chapters will be posted, and all previous chapters have been removed.

Of course, that leaves the obvious question of "what now"? Well, that's where you come in, kiddies! Over on the right hand side of the page, I've set up a poll with the top five candidates, and the one that gets the most votes by midnight on Friday 6/25 (yep, that's this Friday) will be the next Sunday Serial.

For those of you who may not be familiar with some (or all) of these serials, I've listed them all below, along with some basic information and a link to the IMDB page for each one.(Just click the titles to go to IMDB.)

Here are the candidates:

Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe (Yep, it's true - while the copyright was renewed on the first two Flash serials, apparently it wasn't on this third one.) 1940, 12 chapters, stars Buster Crabbe and Carol Hughes.
From Wikipedia: A deadly plague has been ravaging the planet [Earth], known as the Purple Death because it leaves a purple spot on the forehead of its victims. Ming the Merciless is suspected to be behind the plague, and Flash Gordon is sent with Dr. Alexis Zarkov and Dale Arden to the planet Mongo to find the cause of the plague, as well as a cure.

Ace Drummond 1936, 13 chapters, stars John "Dusty" King.
From IMDB: Ace is a 'G-Man of the sky' working out of Washington D.C. He is sent to Mongolia to find out why a mysterious villain known only as 'The Dragon' is trying to prevent the newly formed International Airways from setting up an airport there. Ace meets Peggy Trainor (Jean Rogers) who is searching for her archaeologist father who has disappeared. Together they search for answers to the puzzles.

The Phantom Empire 1935, 12 chapters, stars Gene Autry
From Wikipedia: Gene Autry plays a singing cowboy of the same name, who runs Radio Ranch, a dude ranch from which he makes a daily live radio broadcast at 2pm. This is a "modern" cowboy story, with planes and such. Gene has two kid sidekicks, Frankie Darro and Betsy King Ross... A chance to be real heroes occurs when Betsy, Frankie and Gene are kidnapped by the Thunder Riders, from the super-scientific underground empire of Murania, complete with towering skyscrapers, robots, ray-guns, elevators tubes that extend miles from the surface, and an icy, evil blonde Queen Tika.

Zorro's Fighting Legion 1939, 12 chapters, stars Reed Hadley
From IMDB: The legendary masked swordsman Zorro dodges a variety of deathtraps, including exploding barns, runaway elevators and avalanches, in his effort to thwart the insidious plan of armored bad guy Don Del Oro to rule Mexico.

The Green Archer 1940, 15 chapters, stars Victor Jory
From IMDB: Michael Bellamy inherits Garr Castle, but his brother, Abel has him imprisoned unjustly and moves into the castle himself. When Michael's wife, Elaine, fails to return after visiting Abel, her sister Valerie Howett, accompanied by their father, Parker Howett and private detective Spike Holland, rent an adjoining estate, determined to investigate the case.

Ok, there you go. Five candidates to be the next Sunday Serial.

Oh, I mentioned a contest, too, didn't I? Ok, here's the deal. To enter the contest, once you've voted in the poll, simply leave a comment below telling which serial you voted for and why. Once the poll is closed, one random commenter will be selected, and that person will win a DVD set of the serial they chose. It's that simple. You don't have to comment for your vote to count in the poll, but you do if you want to be included in the contest. Again, the poll closes at midnight, Friday 6/25, so be sure to get your vote and comment in before then.

The new serial and the contest winner will both be announced next Sunday. Good luck!

Until next time, Happy Treasure Hunting,
-Professor Damian

I thought about which series I would prefer to have and it had to be The Phantom Empire with Gene Autry. when I was a kid, I had a tremendous crush on Gee Autry, more because of his records than as him as a cowboy. Besides, this sounds like Gene Autry becomes Dr. Who.
They all sound good as free entertainment.
